Offers for ownership interests in the 22nd licensing round

13.06.2013
The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has send out offers for new production licences in the 22nd licensing round on the Norwegian shelf. 29 companies received offers for participation in 24 new production licences.

Four of the licences are located in the Norwegian Sea and twenty in the Barents Sea.

The announcement round is by far the most extensive that has been in the Barents Sea.

“It is clear that many want to explore in the Barents Sea, because the interest from the industry has been considerable. Many companies are also being offered ownership interests,” says Sissel Eriksen, director of exploration in the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.

She notes that diversity, new ideas and innovation will be important when continuing to explore the Barents Sea:

"The companies are being offered ownership interests in nearly all parts of the Barents Sea that are open to petroleum activities, and several different plays will be tested. This will be exciting!”

Preparations for the round started on 2 November 2011, when the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy invited the oil companies to nominate blocks they believed should be included in the announcement. The round was announced on 26 June of last year, will an application deadline of 4 December.

NPD’s factpages will be updated after final decision by the Government (the Council of State).
