The various areas

Resources in each area are calculated on the basis of plays. The six graphs to the right show the distribution of liquids and gas, total resources and the uncertainty range. The figures show the low (P95) estimate to the left of each column, the best estimate and the high (P05) estimate to the right of each column (figure 20).

Calculating oil and gas resources

Based on resource calculations and estimated discovery probabilities for the 50 identified prospects, the NPD has estimated the resources in each play for every area. This analysis provides an overview of how many discoveries can be expected and their probable size. All the estimates are provided with an uncertainty range. The resource estimate for the whole area is shown in figure 18.

Total expected recoverable resources are put at 202 million scm oe, with an uncertainty range from 76 to 371 million scm oe. This means there is a 95 per cent probability that the resources amount to 76 million scm oe or more, and five per cent that they come to 371 million scm oe or more. Within the same uncertainty range, the estimate is that 14-28 discoveries will be made. The best estimate is 20-21. This analysis builds on the assumption that all identified and assumed prospects are drilled. The resources break down as shown in figure 19.
