NPD seismic data acquisition in the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea

The price of the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate's (NPD's) seismic data sets for the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea is equivalent to the costs of administration.

Ordering data - suppliers:

  • Processed data, digital format - CGG.
  • Processed data, film and paper copies - NPD. State data set, name of line and processing edition when ordering film/paper copies.
  • Digital field data as well as requests for other types of data - NPD.

Barents Sea North

Two regional data sets for the areas north of 74 degrees, 30 minutes were released for sale in 1992. These data sets contained regional lines acquired during the period 1977 to 1988. These data sets will be replaced by newer data sets, and will therefore no longer be available for purchase.

New procedures from 2001

Up to 2001, purchase of the NPD's seismic data sets in the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea south was mandatory for companies that wanted to acquire other data in similar areas.

The requirement to purchase from the NPD was discontinued pursuant to Storting White Paper 39 (1999-2000).

The price of the data was changed in connection with this adjustment.

The result of reprocessing done on the NPD's field data is required to be reported according to standard reporting requirements ( cf guideline – Link to pdf >>). The NPD will maintain a confidentiality period equivalent to market available seismic data for such.
