Wellbore history

General

Well 30/5-3 A is a sidetrack from well 30/5-3 S on the Corvus prospect in the northern part of the Viking Graben at the edge of the Horda Platform in the Northern North Sea. The objective of the sidetrack 30/3-5 S was to evaluate a Cretaceous play to the west of the Corvus main fault and to collect sufficient data to be able to make development plans based on this data.

Operations and results

Wildcat well 30/5-3 A was kicked off from 1008 m in 30/5-3 S on 15 April 2009. It was drilled with the semi-submersible installation Transocean Winner to TD at 4746 m (3990.3 m TVD) in the Late Jurassic Draupne Formation. No significant problem was encountered in the operations. The well was drilled with Versatec oil based mud from kick-off to TD.

The well penetrated rocks of Tertiary, Cretaceous and Jurassic age. The well proved an absence of reservoir sands in the Cretaceous, but revealed hydrocarbon bearing sands within the Draupne Formation. LWD logs validated the existence of hydrocarbons in this prospect.

No oil shows were reported from the well.

No cores were cut. The poor quality of the wire line logs proved to be of less value when evaluating the prospect. MDT fluid sampling was attempted at 4706.5 m. Repeated tool failures resulted in insufficient cleanup and a very contaminated sample of poor quality; however the sample confirmed light hydrocarbons at that depth. Large Diameter probe was used for the fluid sampling.

The well was permanently abandoned on 30 May 2009 as a gas discovery.

Testing
