Permits for carbon storage

Overview of permits for exploitation of subsea reservoirs on the Norwegian continental shelf for injection and storage of CO2.

A permit in accordance with the CO2 storage regulations provides a permit for exploration and exploitation of a subsea reservoir for injection and storage of CO₂ on the Norwegian shelf.

An exploitation permit provides an exclusive right to store CO₂ in the area covered by the permit.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate's role when an exploitation licence is awarded, is to assist the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy with work related to storage of CO2.
