27/05/2003 Press Release No. 8/2003: Marathon Petroleum Norge AS, operator of production license 088BS, has completed drilling of appraisal well 24/6-4.

This well is one of three drilling activities initiated by the licensees in production license 203 in the area west of Heimdal. These partners are also in the process of taking over production license 088BS.

The well was drilled to delimit a discovery made in 1998 by Norsk Hydro in rocks from the Early Tertiary Age, the 24/6-2 Kamelon discovery.

The drilling operation was carried out about 18 km west of the Heimdal field and approx. 3.5 km west of the well that proved the 24/6-2 Kamelon discovery. Water depth at the well location is 119 m.

The well was drilled to a total depth of 2296 meters below the sea surface. The well proved a 25 meter gas column and a 28 meter oil column in sand from the Heimdal formation.

Geophysical measurements, pressure measurements from the borehole and samples of the oil have been collected and are now being evaluated by the operator.

Together with the evaluation of the 25/4-7 discovery made in April 2003 and the results from the drilling of an additional well planned in the area in the near future, the results from this well will be important elements in the owners' plans for development of the area.

The well was drilled by the Deepsea Bergen. The drilling rig will continue its work for Marathon in the Heimdal area, and will now drill 25/4-8 to delimit the 25/4-3 Gekko discovery about 11 km to the southeast, in production license 203.
