26/09/2003 Press release no. 23/2003: Norsk Hydro Produksjon AS has, as the operator of production licence 036, completed the drilling of wildcat well 25/4-9 S. The well was drilled on a prospect of Paleocene (previously Tertiary) age called Klegg, approx. 11 km north-northeast of the Heimdal field, and four km south-southwest of Vale.
The sea depth at the well location is 120 m. The well was drilled to a total depth of 2268 m below sea level.
The well proved an approximately 65 m high oil column in sand from the Heimdal subsection of the Lista formation. The discovery is expected to contain approx. 3-5 million Sm3 oil. The fact that it is located near existing infrastructure, and in an area with several smaller discoveries, gives rise to expectations for a future development.
Drilling on the Klegg prospect was carried out by Deepsea Delta. The well has been permanently plugged and will be abandoned in the near future. The drilling installation will then proceed to production licence 146 further south in the North Sea.
