06/11/2003 Press release no. 26/2003: Statoil ASA has completed drilling wild cat well 34/10-45 B in production license 050 B. The well was drilled from the Gullfaks B installation to a structure south of Gullfaks Vest. The main purpose of the well was to test a prospect in the Middle Jurassic Age.
The total length of the well is approximately 7.9 km, and the drilling activity was concluded in rocks from the Middle Jurassic Age at a depth of 2126 meters. Gas/condensate was proven in sandstone from the Cretaceous Age.
This is a small and limited discovery. As the well was drilled from the Gullfaks B installation, it is nevertheless interesting as it could be rapidly put into production.
Experience from this production could provide valuable information on the size and commercial value of this deposit. The well will subsequently be reclassified to production well 34/10-B-42 E.
