16/12/2002 Press release no. 44/2002: Statoil ASA has concluded drilling on wildcat well 6608/11-3 in production license 128, blocks 6608/10 and 6608/11, located approx. 175 km off the coast of Helgeland.

The drilling activities were carried out by the Stena Don rig on a structure called Blåmeis, which is situated approx. 15 km east of the Norne field. The well was drilled in 374 meters of water to a total depth of 2031 meters below the sea surface.

The well was completed in rocks from the Triassic Age. Total drilling time was 21 days. The main purpose of the well was to test a sandstone prospect in the Early Jurassic Age.

No hydrocarbons were proven in the relevant sandstone strata.  However, the result of the well does not rule out the possibility of discoveries in the other mapped prospects in blocks 6608/10 and 6608/11.

The drilling rig will now leave the location to drill a production well on the Norne field.
