23/09/2005 Press release 18/2005: Statoil ASA, operator of production license 251, is concluding drilling the wildcat well 6302/6-1 on the Tulipan structure in the Norwegian Sea.

The well was drilled at a water depth of 1260 meters, approximately 130 km west of Ormen Lange. The main purpose of the well was to evaluate an early Tertiary prospect.

Small volumes of gas were encountered in sandstones of Tertiary age at a depth of 2600 meters below sea level. The operator is now finalizing an extensive data collection program for further analyzes. The well will be completed in rocks of late Cretaceous age at 2950 meters below sea level.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate evaluates the results as encouraging for further exploration in this new area of the Norwegian Sea.

The well was drilled with the drilling rig "Eirik Raude".

The licensees in production licence 251 are:
Statoil ASA (opeartor) 90 %
A/S Norske Shell 10 %
BG Norge has an agreement with SAtatoil to take over a share of 20 %; this awaits government approval.
