01/03/2006 Press Release 6/2006: ExxonMobil, operator of production licence 241, has completed drilling of wildcat well 15/9-22.

This was the first wildcat well in PL241, which covers parts of blocks 15/8 and 15/9.  The licence was awarded in the North Sea Round in 1999.

The target for the well was a sandstone prospect from the Middle Jurassic period.  The prospect was located approx. 8 km south of the Sleipner field in the North Sea.  Wildcat well 15/9-22 was drilled to a total depth of 3888 metres into Late Triassic rocks.  The well was dry and it will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.

The drilling operation was carried out by the drilling facility Ocean Vanguard, which will now be taken over by Statoil to drill an exploration well in PL050 in the northern North Sea.

The licensees in PL241 are:

ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Norway AS (operator)  -  50 percent
