15/06/2006 Press release 18/2006: Statoil ASA, operator of Production Licence PL 134B,  has completed drilling an appraisal well on Morvin (6506/11-8), which is located on Haltenbanken.

The objective of the well was to prove the presence of hydrocarbons in the southern part of Morvin, which was discovered by wildcat well 6506/11-7 in 2001.

The discovery is located about 8 km north of the Kristin field.

The reservoir is made up of sandstones from the Early and Middle Jurassic Ages.  The well was drilled to a depth of  4893 m and completed in Early Jurassic rocks.  Preliminary analyses confirm that the oil discovery extends into Middle Jurassic rocks.

The well was drilled using the mobile drilling facility West Alpha.  After completing plugging operations on Morvin, the rig will move on to drill another well for Statoil on PL 314.

The licensees in PL 134B are:

Statoil ASA (operator) 50%

Eni Norge AS 30%

Norsk Hydro Produksjon AS 14%

Total E&P Norge AS 6%
