18/08/2006 Press release number 26 / 2006: As the operator of Production Licence 128, Statoil ASA has completed the drilling of wildcat well 6608/10-11S.
The purpose of the well was to investigate the potential for oil and gas in the Jurassic sandstone (the Fangst and Båt groups) of a prospect called Trost. The prospect is located around 1 km west of the Norne field.
Wildcat well 6608/10-11S was side-track drilled from the K template on the Norne field. The well was drilled to a total depth of 3243 m below sea level and concluded in early Jurassic rocks.
The well proved gas in the Fangst group, and the discovery will be further evaluated with a view to a potential tie-in to the Norne field.
The well has now been permanently plugged and abandoned.
Well 6608/10-11S was drilled using the drilling facility Transocean Arctic at a water depth of 376 metres. Transocean Arctic will now continue production drilling on the Norne field.
