12/07/2006 Press release 21/2006: Statoil ASA, operator of Production Licence PL 128,  has completed drilling wildcat well 6608/11-5, which is located on Haltenbanken.

The objective of the well was to explore the potential of oil and gas in sandstones of lower Jurassic (Åre formation) and upper Triassic (Greybeds) age i a prospect known as Valkyrie.

The prospect is located 25 km northeast of the Norne field and 2.7 km southeast of the Linerle discovery, which was discovered in 2004.

The well was drilled to a total depth of 2248 meters below sea-level and was completed in rocks of Triassic age.

The well found traces of hydrocarbons. Cores and logs taken in the well will be used to further investigate the area. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandonned.

6608/11-5 was drilled using the mobile drilling facility Ocean Vanguard in 342 meters of water. Ocean Vanguard will now be taken over by Norske Shell for use in production licence 093, Draugen.
