17/09/2007 Press Release 35/2007:Norsk Hydro Produksjon AS, operator of production licence 107, is in the process of concluding the drilling of wildcat well 6407/7-7 S. The well is located about 5 km northwest of the Njord A platform on the so-called Njord Northwest flank.
The objective of the well was to prove petroleum in Jurassic reservoir rock. The well proved gas and condensate in Jurassic reservoir rock. The size of the discovery is estimated at 1-6 billion Sm3 recoverable gas and 0.5-2.5 million Sm3 recoverable condensate. The well was not formation tested, but extensive data collection and sampling were conducted. The licensees in production licence 107 will consider developing the discovery as additional resources to the Njord field.
The well is the seventh exploration well in production licence 107. The licence was awarded in 1985 in the 9th licensing round. The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 3646 m below the sea surface, and was concluded in the Lower Jurassic. Sea depth at the site was 334 m. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
Well 6407/7-7 S was drilled by the Transocean Winner drilling facility, which will now continue to drill well branch 6407/7-B-1 Y1H on the Northwest flank.
