22/10/2008 Press release 56/2008: StatoilHydro ASA, operator of production licences 120 and 120B, is concluding the drilling of wildcat well 34/8-14 S. The well is located just south of the Visund field, and proved gas and oil in the upper sections of the Brent group.
The purpose of the well was to prove petroleum in Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks. The well was drilled into the southern segment of a prospect called Pan/Pandora, which is part of the faulted east flank of the Visund field. The prospect is mainly located within production licence 120, but also extends into production licence 120B.
The well proved gas and oil in the Brent group. A 35-metre gas column was proven above a 25-metre oil column. Extensive data collection and sampling have been conducted. A sidetrack, 34/8-14 A, will now be drilled to the northern segment of the Pan/Pandora prospect to delineate the discovery towards the north, and to provide a better basis for evaluating the resource potential.
The well is the thirteenth exploration well in production licence 120, which was awarded in the 9th licensing round in 1985.
The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 3077 metres below the sea surface, and was concluded in the Drake formation in the Lower Jurassic.
Water depth at the site is 292 metres. The well will be permanently plugged and abandoned.
The drilling activity has been carried out with the Borgland Dolphin drilling facility, which will continue operations in production licence 120 with the drilling of sidetrack 34/8-14 A.
