7224/6-1

22/08/2008 Press release 45/2008: StatoilHydro Petroleum AS, operator for production licence 394, has completed drilling of wildcat well 7224/6-1. The well is located approximately 160 kilometres north of Nordkapp.

The primary exploration target for the well was to prove petroleum in reservoir strata from the Early Jurassic to the Late Triassic. The secondary exploration target was to prove petroleum in reservoir strata from the Middle Triassic. The well was drilled in the "Arenaria" prospect in block 7224/6.

Petroleum was not proven in the primary target, but strata of good reservoir quality were found in accordance with the prognoses.

Gas was proven in the secondary target in reservoir strata of poor quality. The well was not formation tested, so it is therefore too early to say whether the gas can be produced. However, comprehensive data acquisition and sampling has been carried out.

The well is the the first wildcat well in production licence 394. The license was awarded in the 19th licensing round in 2006.

The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 2315 metres below the sea surface and was terminated in Middle Triassic strata.

The sea depth was 265 metres. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.

The well was drilled using the Polar Pioneer drilling facility, which will now proceed to production licence 228 in the Barents Sea to drill wildcat well 7222/11-1 where StatoilHydro ASA is the operator.
