20/02/2008 Press release 13/2008:StatoilHydro Petroleum AS, as the operator of production licence 169, has completed the drilling of wildcat well 25/11-25 S. The well is located just to the southwest of the Grane field in the North Sea.
The purpose of the well was to prove petroleum in Paleogene reservoir rocks. The well proved oil. The size of the discovery is estimated to 3 - 5 million Sm3 of recoverable oil. The discovery is interesting and may, seen in the context of other discoveries in the area, have potential for further development.
The well is the 13th exploration well in production licence 169. The licence was awarded in the 13th licensing round in 1991.
The well was not formation tested, but comprehensive data collection and sampling have been carried out. The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 1804 metres below sea level and terminated in Paleogene rocks.
The sea depth is 125 metres. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
Well 25/11-25 S was drilled by the semisubmersible drilling facility Transocean Winner, which will now drill wildcat well 25/11-25 A, as a sidestep, to prove petroleum in a nearby prospect in the same production licence.
