11/06/2009 Press Release 34/2009: StatoilHydro Petroleum AS, operator of production licence 046, has concluded the drilling of observation well 15/9-F-10, which also had an exploration target. The well, which was dry, was diagonally/horizontally drilled to an exploration target about seven kilometres northeast of the Sleipner A facility in the North Sea.

The intention was to prove petroleum in Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks (the Hugin formation). The well encountered water in a well-developed sandy reservoir in the Hugin formation. The well is the first observation well with an exploration target in production licence 046, which was awarded in the third licensing round in December 1976.

The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 2963 metres below the sea surface, and was concluded in the Smith Bank formation in the Lower Triassic. The well will be permanently plugged and abandoned. Well 15/9-F-10 was drilled in 91 metres of water using the Mærsk Inspirer drilling facility, from the Volve field.
