6608/10-13

04/11/2009 Statoil Petroleum AS, operator of production licence 437, has completed the drilling of wildcat well 6608/10-13.

The well, which was dry, is located approximately 10 kilometres east of the Norne field in the Norwegian Sea, and 200 kilometres west of Sandnessjøen.

The purpose of the well was to prove petroleum in reservoir rocks from the Lower Jurassic (the Åre formation).

The well encountered rocks of expected thickness and medium to good reservoir quality.

This is the first exploration well in production licence 437. The licence was awarded in APA 2006.

The well was drilled to a total vertical depth of 1420 metres below sea level, and was terminated in rocks from the Lower Jurassic (the Åre formation). The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.

Well 6608/10-13 was drilled at a water depth of 384 metres by the drilling facility Ocean Vanguard, which will now proceed to production licence 159 B in the Norwegian Sea to drill wildcat well 6507/3-8, where Statoil Petroleum AS is the operator.
