16/1-10

28/01/2009 Press Release 7/2009: Lundin Norway AS, operator of production licence 338, is in the process of concluding the drilling of appraisal well 16/1-10 on the 16/1-8 discovery. The discovery was made in Jurassic reservoir rocks in the fall of 2007, and the size of the discovery was estimated to be between 10 - 30 million standard cubic metres (Sm3) of recoverable oil. The discovery is located about 15 km east of the 15/3-1 S Gudrun discovery in the North Sea.

The purpose of well 16/1-10 was to delineate the discovery. The well encountered undersaturated oil with the same oil/water contact as in the discovery well. Extensive studies have been initiated to evaluate all the data collected from the well, including integration of this data with the analysis of the 3D seabed seismic data (OBS) acquired in 2008, before a new, updated resource estimate can be made. Two formation tests were carried out, along with extensive data collection and sampling in the well. The maximum production rate was 620 Sm3 of oil per flow day through a 54/64-inch diameter nozzle. The reservoir interval in the well showed a lower percentage of sandstone and more coarse conglomerates.

This is the second exploration well in production licence 338, which was awarded in the Awards in Predefined Areas (APA) in 2004. The appraisal well was drilled to a vertical depth of 2125 metres below the sea surface, and was concluded in rocks presumably from the Triassic Age. The water depth at the site was 110 metres. The well will be plugged and abandoned.

The well is being drilled by the semisubmersible drilling facility Bredford Dolphin, which will now proceed to production licence 029 B in the North Sea to drill wildcat well 15/6-10 where ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Norway AS is operator.
