05/02/2009 Press release 11/2009: Talisman Energy Norge AS, operator of production licence 019 B, has concluded the drilling of wildcat well 2/1-14 S, located four kilometres east of the Gyda facility in the North Sea. The well was drilled from the Gyda facility as a sidetrack from a development well.
The purpose of the well was to prove petroleum in sandstone from the Late Jurassic Age. Non-mobile petroleum was encountered at this reservoir level. The well will be classified as a dry well.
Further evaluation of the well results could lead to a sidetrack on the structure at a later date.
The well is the eleventh exploration well in production licence 019 B, which was awarded in 1977. It was drilled to a vertical depth of 3755 metres below the sea surface, and was concluded in the Skagerrak Formation from the Triassic Age.
The water depth in the area is 67 metres. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
