34/7-35 S
12/07/2012
Statoil Petroleum AS, operator of production licence 552, is in the process of completing the drilling of wildcat well 34/7-35 S. The well was drilled about 4 kilometres east of the Tordis field in the North Sea.
The objective of the well was to prove petroleum in Upper and Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks (sandstones in the Draupne formation and the Brent group).
The well did not encounter Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks. The reservoir rocks encountered in the Brent group have poorer than expected properties. The well is dry. Data acquisition has been carried out.
This is the first exploration well in production licence 552. The licence was awarded in APA 2009.
The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 3710 metres below the sea surface and was terminated in the Brent Group from the Middle Jurassic Age.
Water depth at the site is 265 metres. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
Well 34/7-35 S was drilled by the Ocean Vanguard drilling facility, which will now proceed to production licence 265 in the North Sea to drill wildcat well 16/2-12 where Statoil Petroleum AS is the operator.
