13/02/2013 Maersk Oil Norway AS, operator of production licence 513, is about to complete drilling of wildcat well 6506/6-2. The well was drilled about six kilometres north of the 6506/6-1 (Victoria) discovery in the Norwegian Sea.
The objective of the well was to prove petroleum in Upper Cretaceous reservoir rocks (the Lysing formation). The well encountered the Lysing formation with reservoir rocks and reservoir quality as expected, but the well is dry.
Data acquisition and sampling have been carried out.
The well is the first exploration well in production licence 513. The licence was awarded in APA 2008.
The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 3325 metres below the sea surface, and was terminated in the Lange formation in Early Cretaceous. Water depth is 409 metres. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
Well 6506/6-2 was drilled by the Transocean Barents drilling facility, which will now proceed to production licence 531 in the Barents Sea to drill development well 7218/11-1, where Repsol Exploration Norge AS is the operator.
