New and improved FactMaps and FactPages

19/06/2014 Today, 19 June, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) is launching a new version of FactMaps and upgraded FactPages.

“Management and communication of data from the Norwegian continental shelf [NCS] is one of our most important tasks,” says director general Bente Nyland. ”These new factual products will collectively provide even better functionality and are more adapted to the customer’s needs.”

The FactPages and FactMaps are portals with information updated daily on all discoveries, fields, wells, operators, licensees and production licences on the NCS. They provide useful and important tools for professionals in the oil industry, not least in connection with the licensing rounds on the NCS.

Their information is also used by other government agencies , environmental organisations, students, the financial community, and journalists both in Norway and abroad. Statistics from 2013 show that the portals receive a total of about 20,000 hits per day, which means that someone requests information from them every five seconds on average.

The new FactMaps is available in two editions, one standard (html5) and one advanced (Silverlight). Those who have downloaded the new Oil Facts app will recognise the standard edition.

For more functionality, users are recommend to adopt the advanced version. This allows data to be filtered and third-party information or map services entered. The user can also utilise FactMaps as a map service in their own solutions. The data content in the two editions is the same.

The upgraded version of FactPages has an improved layout, and is also linked to the standard edition of the new FactMaps. This gives users expanded search and analysis options in the NPD’s geographical data basis. It has become easier to export data to other formats such as PDF, Excel, XML and CSV.
