New courses for fishery experts on seismic vessels
09/02/2009 The response to the course offered for fishery experts on seismic vessels has been overwhelming and the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) and the Directorate of Fisheries are scheduling more courses than originally planned.
The two first courses, in Bergen on 23-25 February and in Tromsø on 10-12 March, are completely full. However, a few slots may become available if there are cancellations.
Space is still available for the courses in Ålesund on 18–20 March and in Bergen on 25-27 March. Information about available courses can be obtained by ringing Aase Moe in the NPD, telephone +47 51 87 64 77.
The course for fishery experts on seismic vessels is one of several measures initiated by the authorities to improve coexistence between fishery and seismic acquisition activities.
The courses run over three days, with mandatory attendance each day. The fishery experts must have a fundamental grasp of English, including technical terminology, in order to carry out their work in a satisfactory manner. For this reason, a brief compulsory language test will be administered. The course will conclude with a knowledge test with the grades passed/failed.
