Webinar:Immiscible WAG modelling
Welcome to the second presentation from Arne Skauge, Energy Research Norway. This lecture will give a practical introduction to modelling of immiscible WAG processes. The key parameters will be defined, and their impact will be discussed in case study simulations.
Water-Alternating-Gas (WAG) processes, both miscible and immiscible, are among the key EOR methods applied worldwide. Currently, both hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon gases especially CO2 have reported successful implementation of WAG. WAG injection may lead to complex oscillating saturation pattern. This brings about special demands for the relative permeability description of the three phases (oil, gas, and water), including hysteresis in flow functions and trapping of all phases.
The target for Water-Alternating-Gas (WAG) is to improve sweep compared to gas injection. Lately, other benefits of WAG have been added, like reduced three-phase relative permeability to gas and water, trapped gas, trapped water, and lower residual oil saturation in the three-phase zone. WAG injection now combines improved microscopic displacement efficiency of the gas flooding, three-phase relative permeability with an improved macroscopic sweep by the injected phases.
This lecture will present a practical introduction to modelling of immiscible WAG processes. The key parameters will be defined, and their impact will be discussed in simulation of some case studies.
