Carbonate and Chalk Reservoirs

As implied by the name Carbonate and Chalk Reservoirs this network is set up to cover topics and opportunities specific to fields producing from carbonate and chalk reservoirs.

Objectives:

The chalk fields, which in many ways pioneered the petroleum industry in Norway are also known for their particularities and complexities. For many years, such challenges were studied and developed under the Joint Chalk Research program, called JCR. This was a joint effort between the industry and authorities in both Norway and Denmark to promote development of the hydrocarbon resources stored in chalk formations.

The JCR is thus the predecessor to the Carbonate and Chalk Reservoirs network, which was formed in late 2018. This network aim to promote the past developments under JCR and facilitate for continued advancements for a sustainable development of the chalk reservoirs on the NCS.

Simultaneously, the network also recognize the less mature carbonate plays that are explored further north on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Scopes:

  • Organize workshops / lunch & learn
  • Promote and review project proposals
  • Bring contractors and oil companies together to discuss relevant topics
  • Provide an arena for discussion for Chalk and Carbonate challenges and opportunities

The network encourages service companies, oil companies and academics to contact the network group if they have ideas or project proposals that they want to bring to the attention of the community.
