How can we ensure that injection and storage of CO2 on the Norwegian shelf (NCS) can be accomplished in a way that is safe? And what roles do the Norwegian authorities play in this?

Organisers: PSA, NPD and the Norwegian Environment Agency (NEA) The Petroleum Safety Authority, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate and the Norwegian Environment Agency are inviting interested parties to a seminar on safe storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) in geological formations on the NCS.
Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is necessary for the achievement of national and international climate goals, both in the short and medium term. Norwegian authorities are working to ensure utilisation of the considerable potential for CO2 storage on the NCS.
Information about the rules for carbon capture and storage
At the seminar, the three agencies will provide an overview of relevant CCS regulations within the respective areas of responsibility, how the regulations are followed up and what expectations the authorities have for storage players.
We are also inviting a representative from the industry to explain the challenges they see in establishing large-scale CCS on the Norwegian shelf, including regulatory, technological and financial challenges and barriers.
The target group includes licensees and other relevant players
The primary audience for the seminar is first and foremost licensees and other relevant players involved in storage of CO2, or those that are planning such activity.
The seminar will not be streamed. The presentations will be published on the agencies’ websites after the seminar.
